secondに引き続き、firstのご紹介。第一、という基本の意味がいろいろな表現に応用されます。

This comes first.は、すこし前に紹介したimportantの類義表現です。What comes first is ...という風にも言えます。

First come, first served.は、いわゆる早い者勝ちのこと。

「明日の朝いちでやっておくよ」という「朝一番」は、first thing tomorrow morningとか、first thing in the morningとなります。

love at first sightでしたっけ？「ひとめぼれ」ってのは。いや、もう忘れかけてましたよ。
